Description

Salvador Dali is known for his unique use of symbols. In “GALA, mon seul désir ( La Dame à la Licorne)”

we find the symbol of the unicorn, an animal associated with purity, chastity but also having an erotic significance.

This graphic work is inspired by the famous medieval wall hanging, from “la Dame à la Licorne (à mon seul désir)” which would be an allegory of our five senses as well as the revelation of a “sixth”, the sense of heart and access to the spiritual world.

The motto: “Mon seul désir” is a caution against sensual derivatives and earthly enjoyment.

Dali, uses the symbol of his wife and muse Gala, as incarnation of this ideal woman representing the allegory of the five senses where each gesture designates the incarnate meaning.
